With her new cover release, Nicoletta Rosellini returns to the world of symphonic power metal, taking on “Warrior’s Pride” by Luca Turilli, a song from his 1999 solo debut King of the Nordic Twilight.

Known for its emotional melodies, epic fantasy atmosphere and demanding vocal passages, the song tells a story of honor, loss and the enduring legacy of a fallen king. Nicoletta’s interpretation brings her expressive vocal style to this powerful ballad, including the soaring high notes that make its ending particularly challenging.

From Rhapsody to “King of the Nordic Twilight”

The story behind Warrior’s Pride begins with Italian guitarist and composer Luca Turilli, best known as a founding member of Rhapsody, the band that would later become Rhapsody of Fire.

During the 1990s, Rhapsody helped establish a distinctive approach to power metal, combining fast guitar passages, orchestral arrangements, classical influences and elaborate fantasy storytelling.

In 1999, Turilli expanded that musical vision with his first solo album, King of the Nordic Twilight, released through Limb Music.

Rather than abandoning the sound associated with Rhapsody, the album explored similar musical territory, bringing together cinematic orchestration, powerful melodies and an atmosphere inspired by fantasy literature.

The recordings featured several accomplished musicians, including vocalist Olaf Hayer, guitarist and producer Sascha Paeth, keyboardist Michael Rodenberg (Miro) and drummer Robert Hunecke-Rizzo.

Warrior’s Pride appeared near the end of the album, offering a more emotional and reflective contrast to its faster, more energetic compositions.

A farewell to a fallen king

Unlike many power metal songs that focus on battles, victories and heroic adventures, Warrior’s Pride tells a story about what remains after a hero is gone.

Its lyrics describe a fantasy kingdom mourning the loss of its king. Ancient castles, mountains and valleys form the setting for a solemn farewell, while elves perform a ritual dance in his memory.

The queen, sitting on the golden throne of Irekan, struggles with the thought of facing a future without her king. Meanwhile, knights arrive from distant lands to honor the fallen ruler.

At the heart of the song is the hope that the king’s spirit will live on through the land and the memories of his people.

This combination of sadness, admiration and hope gives Warrior’s Pride its distinctive character. Behind its fantasy imagery lies a universal theme: the desire to remember those we have lost and preserve what they meant to us.

The song can therefore be understood not simply as a celebration of a warrior’s strength, but also as a tribute to loyalty, honor and a legacy that survives beyond death.

Nicoletta’s interpretation brings her expressive vocal style to the song’s emotional melodies and epic fantasy atmosphere.

Her performance moves between gentle, heartfelt passages and powerful vocal moments, with the orchestral arrangement providing a dramatic backdrop.

The song’s final section is particularly impressive, featuring soaring high notes that highlight the vocal demands of the composition.

When announcing the cover, Nicoletta jokingly wondered about the “insane notes” at the end of the original song — a challenge she now takes on in her own interpretation.

For this recording, the instrumental backing track was created by Carlos Alvarez, while mixing and mastering were handled by Ken Force.

The release adds another symphonic power metal ballad to Nicoletta’s growing collection of covers, following her recent excursions into classic rock and other musical styles.

Chosen by the Ko-fi community

This release has a particularly interesting story within Nicoletta’s ongoing Ko-fi cover series.

Each month, her supporters help choose the next song through community polls, making them an active part of the creative process.

For the October cover, the first vote ended in an unusual tie: Luca Turilli’s “Warrior’s Pride” and Serenity’s “Lionheart” both received 35% of the votes.

A second poll was needed to determine the winner.

The final result was remarkably close. With 52% of the votes, Warrior’s Pride narrowly defeated Lionheart, which received 48%.

That decision brought Nicoletta back to the world of epic fantasy metal, giving her supporters another example of how their choices directly influence her upcoming releases.

Through Ko-fi, fans can continue supporting the production of new covers, take part in future votes and follow Nicoletta’s musical projects.

Coming next: Toto’s “Africa”

After the epic fantasy atmosphere of Warrior’s Pride, Nicoletta is preparing another significant change in musical direction.

Her November cover will be “Africa” by Toto, the legendary American rock band.

Originally released on the 1982 album Toto IV, Africa became one of the band’s most recognizable songs, reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1983.

Written by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, the song is famous for its distinctive keyboard melodies, layered harmonies and unmistakable rhythmic atmosphere.

The November cover was also selected through a Ko-fi community poll, where Africa won with 33% of the votes, ahead of Scorpions’ When the Smoke Is Going Down with 29%.

Nicoletta has already shared her enthusiasm for the song, describing it as one she absolutely loves. She has also confirmed that the instrumental backing track has already been commissioned.

After the dramatic power metal of October, November will therefore bring a return to melodic classic rock, offering another opportunity to explore a different side of Nicoletta’s voice.

With Warrior’s Pride, Nicoletta Rosellini continues her journey through songs and styles that have shaped generations of music fans, while her Ko-fi community helps decide where that journey goes next.
