Alterium present cover of Symphony X classic “Paradise Lost”

Alterium have just unveiled their brand new song, a cover of the legendary prog metal band Symphony X. With their version of “Paradise Lost” they breathe new life into the iconic track and combine its epic original atmosphere with their own powerful interpretation.

The song is part of the current “Stormrage” EP, released on July 25, 2025. But “Paradise Lost” is something special. Alongside the orchestral version of “Of War and Flames” it is featured exclusively on the CD edition of the EP, making this release a true collector’s item for fans.

Behind the scenes

The production, mixing and mastering of the song were handled by Paolo Campitelli, who can be heard on keyboards for this track, at the Warlord Sound Studios. The accompanying video was also created in close collaboration within the band, with Paolo taking care of most of the filming as well as the final editing.

Filming took place at Domination Studio in Rimini, Italy, which gives the video its cinematic atmosphere.

Why “Paradise Lost”?

“Paradise Lost” is one of the most renowned and highly regarded songs by Symphony X. It was released in 2007 as the title track of the album of the same name, which marked an important milestone in the career of the American prog metal icons. With its blend of dark orchestral soundscapes, complex structures and captivating melodies, it is still considered one of the defining tracks of the genre.

For Alterium the choice was clear. The entire band has been a devoted fan of Symphony X and this song for years. The power, the emotion and the epic atmosphere of “Paradise Lost” have fascinated them from the very beginning. It was only a matter of time until they created their own interpretation. With this recording Alterium pay tribute to their musical heroes while also showcasing how they can transform a classic into their unique sound.
