Shadowsong

Of War And Flames

STORY

Shadowsong” draws inspiration from the iconic Warcraft character Maiev Shadowsong, a Night Elf Warden who has dedicated her life to justice, control, and ultimately, vengeance. As the leader of the Watchers, Maiev’s mission was to guard the prison of Illidan Stormrage, a powerful and dangerous figure known as "The Betrayer."

For a thousand years, Illidan was held in captivity. When he was finally freed, Maiev's life was consumed by a singular purpose: to hunt him down and return him to his cell. Her obsession became her identity, and what began as duty evolved into something far more personal and destructive.

A Relationship Built on Opposition

At the heart of “Shadowsong” lies the strange and intense bond between Maiev and Illidan. It is not a romantic connection, but a psychological entanglement defined by pursuit and resistance. Maiev’s identity becomes inseparable from her role as the hunter. She is not simply executing justice — she is locked in a cycle of purpose, vengeance, and self-destruction.

The lyrics reflect this inner turmoil. Phrases like “She became a jailer” and “Empty of all but endless rage” capture the way Maiev slowly loses herself in her obsession. While she hunts the guilty, she herself becomes trapped in the endless cycle of revenge.

Fast-Paced, Melodic, and Intense

Musically, “Shadowsong” matches the relentless intensity of its subject. It is one of the faster, guitar-driven tracks on the album, yet it remains deeply melodic. The chorus is both haunting and powerful, echoing the Moonlight that shines equally on the guilty and the innocent — a line that highlights the moral ambiguity of Maiev’s actions.

Her pursuit of justice becomes a reflection of her own descent. She is no longer just the warden; she is the prisoner of her own rage.

A Dark Chapter of Inner Conflict

“Shadowsong” is not just a tribute to a well-known lore character. It is a meditation on what happens when duty turns into obsession, and when justice crosses the line into personal vengeance. Through both music and lyrics, Alterium brings to life one of the most tragic and psychologically rich characters in the Warcraft universe.

This song offers fans a powerful mix of lore, emotion, and epic metal energy, delivered through a melody that lingers long after the final note.

Behind the Song

Lyrics

Empty shell of herself, she became a Jailer

Arcane would lead the world to damnation

Hollow inside, bound to hunt but the Land was safe

A thousand years behind the door

Hunting master, hand of Justice

Anger, vengeance were her fate

Your blood is mine

The Moonlight shines upon the guilty and the innocent alike

Run for your life

Yet she′s the one in the endless cycle of rеvenge

Sinking into madness, blindеd by frustration

Her soul was empty of all but endless rage

Warden of cage without light underneath our Land

Thousand years behind the door

Hunting master, hand of Justice

Anger, vengeance were her fate

Your blood is mine

The Moonlight shines upon the guilty and the innocent alike

Run for your life

Yet she's the one in the endless cycle of revenge

Your blood is mine

The Moonlight shines upon the guilty and the innocent alike

Run for your life

Yet she′s the one in the endless cycle of revenge

(Your blood is mine)

Your blood is mine (the Moonlight shines upon the guilty and the innocent alike)

The Moonlight shines (run for your life)

In the endless cycle of revenge (yet she's the one in the endless cycle of revenge)
